D.Law has cultivated a workplace culture that emphasizes collaboration and an esprit de corps uncommon among most law firms. For a law firm specializing in labor law, wage theft and workplace issues, it is important for them to “walk the walk” as a core value of their brand. From a design standpoint we sought to embed these core values in the program and architectural features of the project. A continuous spiral stair runs from basement to roof terrace, culminating with a large skylight. This axis mundi brings daylight into the middle of the building and is a primary device linking circulation between floors to encourage workplace collaboration. An exterior roof terrace and first floor garden patio provide spaces for group gatherings, social events, informal meetings and work breaks; a skylit basement dining mezzanine set up for group lunches, staff birthdays, and to support the basement lounge for informal meetings, movie nights, and other special events; and a gym with locker room and game room.
